COMBINED TOUR (3 day tour)
Description:
Cotopaxi National Park is a protected area that goes from an altitude
of 3.200 up to 6.000 Mts it has 4 climatic zones: Andean forest, paramo,
high plateau and glassier
Cotopaxi is claimed to be the highest and the most perfectly shaped mountain
in the world. Iit is Ecuador’s most famous volcano. Technically
it is not a difficult mountain but due to its height it is a must that
climbers get well acclimatized, as well as physically and mentally prepared.
Ice- climbing gear is also required. From its summit Cotopaxi offers a
spectacular view; other snow-capped peaks can be seen, as well the Amazon
basin.
There are several ways to access to the park all are easy and safe therefore,
we have a good opportunity to develop different activities.
This 3 day combined tour specially allows the opportunity for an efficient
acclimatization; our campsites, biking equipment and our specialized and
professional staff make it comfortable and easy.
Fist day is biking in the area; second day we’ll provide a briefing
school (basic ice climbing techniques) third day climbing to the summit
of Cotopaxi Volcano.
From our experience we can say that al least 90% of the people taking
this tour has reached the summit.

02.- Ice Briefing 7:00 A.M departure from the agency or hotel.
2 ½ hrs car drive on the Pan-American highway towards the Cotopaxi
National Park.
While we are crossing the volcanoes avenue we will enjoy beautiful landscapes
characteristic of the Andean Region as well as some mountains such as
Pasochoa, Rumiñahui, Illinizas North and South, etc.
Biking starting point El Pedregal. Altitude 3.200 Mts.
Most of the track will be up hill, we will pedal from 3.200 Mts. to El
Salitre ruins at 3.800 Mts. where will stop to take our lunch and visit
the ruins.
After lunch we will pedal on a cross-country path heading to Limpiopungo
Valley where we have settled our campsite. The whole route is carefully
picked for the program.

Day 03. - CLIMBING TO COTOPAXI SUMMIT
After a hearty breakfast around midnight, we departure to the summit.
We follow the normal north route and expect to arrive at the summit in
6 to 7 hours and enjoy the wonderful view of the crater of this impressive
volcano. With good weather, we can see far in the distance the Mount Chimborazo.
We descend to the refuge and afterwards to the parking lot. Return to
Quito

WHAT TO BRING:
Sleeping bag, bag pack, warm and rain clothes, trek shoes, hat or cap, gloves, flashlight (torch) with spare batteries, sunglasses, sunscreen, camera,
with spare batteries.
NOTE: We climb to any mountain in Ecuador, most of them are 2 day programs and the most requested are: Illinizas, Cayambe, Cotopaxi and Chimborazo.
